Background
Center for Regulatory Research, LLC was founded by Dr. Susan D. Cohen, a regulatory plant pathologist in September of 2005. Dr. Cohen has over 15 years of experience in the regulatory field with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. She has published a number of academic articles on fungal plant pathogens, risk information systems, geospatial applications for pest risk assessments and the non-indigenous risk assessment process. Dr. Cohen serves as the President and Chief Executive Manager of the company.
In 2001, Dr. Cohen was appointed Visiting Assistant Professor in the Plant Pathology Department with the University of Minnesota, St. Paul and for the next three years collaborated with academics and US Forest Service on risk assessment research projects. More recently, Dr. Cohen has worked on the invasive species pathway committee under the auspices of the National Invasive Species Council developing an assessment tool for identifying high risk pathways with the potential to bring in exotic species into the USA.
In the Fall of 2005, Dr. Cohen recognized several regulatory research needs in the academic, industry and government communities were not being met and decided to establish a company in support of those needs. The company now employs part-time undergraduate and graduate university students to assist with projects. Experienced consultants are also available for more complex projects. |
